Welcome to our June Newsletter

There are so many wonderful things happening in and around the Shed at the moment and we’re excited to tell you all about them.

You may already have noticed one excellent thing thing that’s happened recently – Shedding has a new logo! Created by the wildly talented Maddy (moonfacemaddy.com) it’s based on our original logo, and has been updated to reflect how Shedding has grown over the last 5 years.

The colours represent diversity and inclusivity, and they’re also welcoming, warm, and earthy – just like us! The circle represents the nurturing space we hold at Shedding. It’s an imperfect circle, which is perfect in it’s imperfection, because aren’t we all? The arrow represents recycling and returning to self, things we’re truly passionate about. And the logo itself was hand-made, which speaks to heart of how we like to do things. We love it so much and hope you do too.

In other exciting news – Shedding now has DGR (deductible gift recipient) status. That means that donations made to Shedding of $2 or more are TAX DEDUCTIBLE! Yay! With the end of the financial year looming, now is a great time to donate. We’ve also recently joined the Pegs, the app for locals, and you can also donate to us there.

We’re so grateful for all the support we receive form our wonderful community, and feel blessed to have so many wonderful people around us to support the work we do.

EMPOWER

Have you signed up for EMPOWER yet?

EMPOWER is our hands-on training for anyone who wants to become more confident in sharing their skills and knowledge with their community. In it you’ll learn our philosophy of teaching and learning, leadership and guidance, how to make and hold space with intention, how to run a workshop and how to access community resources. We’ve had over 50 individuals and community groups complete the training already, including members of Resilient Lismore and Byron Shire Council. It’s been amazing to share our practices of
learning and empowerment with a diverse range of people, and we’d love to share them with you too.

EMPOWER runs on Thursdays from 9am-5pm. It includes one hands-on training day, 5hrs online coursework and mentoring opportunities.

TOOL BELT MAKING

Are you interested in making your very own customised, perfectly fitting tool belt? Then we have the workshop for you!

Shedding is excited to offer a number of Tool Belt Making Workshops with the incredible Rachel Ayland from Bangalow Shoemaking.

In these workshops you’ll learn leather-working skills as you design and create a high-quality, custom tool belt, that’s literally made just for you. All in one day! A wide range of quality leather is available, including vegan, and Rachel will guide and support you through the whole process.

These workshops are lots of fun, and a great way to learn new skills while you make something practical and gorgeous that’ll last a lifetime. There are still spots available on the 20th and 23rd of July. From 10am-5pm.

UPSKILL
UPSKILL runs on Saturdays (check the website for dates) and is the place to start your Shedding journey. It’s an introduction to the fundamentals of carpentry and building, and once you’ve done it you can jump into all our other workshops.

SPACEMAKERS
SPACEMAKERS happens every Friday and is our free workshop series where you get to collaboratively build a range of projects for our workshop space. It’s always fun time and a great place to show off your existing tool skills, learn some new ones, and share the joy of supporting each other.

Day: Fridays
Time: 10am-3pm
Cost: Free (currently funded by DCJ)

REPAIR CAFE
Join our host of volunteers every Saturday arvo as we passionately share skills to repair all manner of things. You don’t need to be an expert, basically if you can turn a screw driver anti clockwise you’ve got the skills we need!

Day: Saturdays
Time: 1.30pm-4.30pm
Cost: By donation

MONTHLY POTLUCK DINNERS
On the first Wednesday of each month the Shedding community comes together to share food, conversation and hands-on skills. We’re currently learning knot tying, it’s so much fun!

Day: First Wednesday of the month
Time: 6pm-9pm
Cost: Bring a dish to share or a donation (recommended $10)
